Tunnel To Towers National Golf Tournament Set for Veteran's Day

The Stephen Siller Children’s Foundation (the Foundation) announced today that it will host a National Golf Tournament on Veteran’s Day this November 11th, 2010 to honor our military heroes.

Known for its’ Tunnel to Towers Run attended by 25,000 people annually, the Foundation was created in honor of fallen New York Fire Fighter, Stephen Siller, who dedicated his life to helping those in need and protecting our country. On September 11, 2001, Stephen had just completed his scheduled tour with the FDNY, and was traveling to meet his brothers to play a round of golf on Staten Island. When Stephen was alerted of the Twin Tower attack on his scanner, his determination and unyielding dedication to others compelled him to run on foot with 75 lbs of gear on his back from the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel to the Twin Towers to help rescue the thousands of people in grave peril, and in doing so, Stephen lost his life that tragic day.

For the past two years, the Foundation has hosted the Veteran’s Day Golf Tournament on Staten Island, and has successfully raised over $100,000 for non-profit organizations, “Building Homes for Heroes” and “Freedom & Alliance Scholarship.” The Foundation feels deeply compelled to unite all fifty states and host this year’s Tunnel-To-Towers Golf Tournament, nationally. “We are continuously humbled by the increasing number of severely wounded men and women, military heroes who return to our country without limbs, eye sight, the ability to walk, and often most difficult of all—without support from the people they risked their lives to protect. Many of these young wounded heroes entered the military compelled to make a meaningful difference post-September 11th, much like Stephen. It’s time for us all to make a meaningful difference for these physically and emotionally paralyzed heroes” says Frank Siller, brother of Stephen. “Our family has been particularly grateful to Golf Professionals, and their support and dedication to our mission ‘to do good’ while honoring Stephen’s brave decision to run, not putt on September 11th, 2001.

Proceeds will be donated to Building Homes for Heroes and the Freedom Alliance Scholarship. Building Homes for Heroes provides the opportunity to help our severely wounded and disabled veterans and their families rebuild their lives. Many of America’s heroes return missing limbs, the loss of sight, the ability to walk, and it’s our time to serve these wounded soldiers, and show them we care. Freedom Alliance Scholarship provides educational scholarships for children who lost one or both parents in the line of duty.
